Visualization and other Mental Techniques a key to become successful

Dr. Charles Garfield was a former NASA Researcher.  He is currently the president The Performance – Science Institute in Berkely CA talks about a starting experiment conducted by Soviet Sports Scientist.

He conducted a study that examined the effect of visualization and other mental techniques on the performance of the athletes.  He selected four groups of world-class athletes just prior to the 1980 Lake Placid, New York Olympics.  The four groups of elite athletes were divided as follows:

What the researchers found was that Group 4 – The group with most mental training – had shown significantly greater improvement than Group 3 showed more improvement than Group 2, and Group 2 showed more improvement than Group 1.

The results were astonishing.  Who would expect that athletes training mentally would be able to advance further than their counterparts who were training physically?

Garfield said, “During mental rehearsal, athletes create mental images of the exact movements they want to emulate in their sport.  Use of this Skill Substantially increases the effective of goal setting, which up until then had been little more than a dull listening procedure”.

Isn’t this inspiring? Now, when we say visualization it is just now about imagining some images or some presence, practice or performance. When we say Visualization here, we mean Multi-Sensory Imagination or Mental rehearsal. In this process, Visualizing in one component, of course a key component, however using other senses also plays an equivalent role. They are:

·        Auditory          : Sense of hearing
Kinesthetic      : Sense of touch (The sense that detects bodily position, weight, or
movement of the muscles, tendons, and joints)
Olfactory         : Sense of Smell
Gustatory        : Sense of taste

and thus Visualization is about using all your five senses to build up your abilities, plant your burning desires or goals or actions in your mind and  imagine by activating or stimulating all your five senses. Believe in what you SEE.

The above is just one example of how External Stimulation and Sensory Imagination can play a very important role in bringing out the achiever in you.

Imagination and Visualization is one of the primary functions of the right brain.  If the abilities related to imagining and visualization functions are nurtured in the child right from early ages, it will eventually help the child acquire lifelong super learning abilities.

A methodical training (from 3 months of age onwards) will help the child acquire the above abilities.  MySmartBaby early learning program helps stimulate your Baby’s visualization skills – Plant today so that your child can reap the fruit of success tomorrow.
